Canning Blueberry Jam

Along with longer days, hot weather, and snakes, summer also brings BLUEBERRIES! This year, Poppa and Pattycake have an abundance. So making jam and canning, it is... I made the tradional jam, but this time I put on the dog! Lime-Blueberry Jam. Now don't look at me like that! Eventhough I am a 'mater picker, corn eater, chicken rearin', bona fide country girl (did I ever tell you about my birthday present at 15 years old? feeder pigs...), I am still a Florida girl. Make that Florida cracker. Born and bred... and now I a gettin' pickled here too (redneck speak for "getting old"). We Floridians love to make a vacation out of everything. And what quicker way to add a little vacation to breakfast? Well, throw a little lime in your jam!

Here's the basics of making the jam...

Oops...ya'll didn't know how I crushed the berries? I told you Gavin helped, didn't I? Oh, well you didn't specifically ask how he helped...Don't worry, everything gets boiled for a good, hard 15 minutes.

Yes, yes, I used my foot too...How else are you supposed to stir a boiling pot of jam and loosen up a lime to juice, anyway? Like, I said, it gets boiled!

How do I do it all, you may ask? Well, I am highly organized and keep on top of my children and housework. It is amazing how much free time I have! My house ALWAYS looks like the cover of a magazine. A benefit of having a 'type A' personality, I suppose...

Blueberry baby food!

In all our picking and jamming and canning, Noah gets the benefit of having his very own steamed and pureed blueberries! I make most of No-no's food either from our little slice of garden or Mom and Pop's garden of Eden. Poppa and Pattycake have donated a portion of these berries purely for Noah's enjoyment (or is it my amusement?).
